Understanding the factors that contributed to the development of an eating disorder as well having a clear treatment plan explained to you, can ground you in taking that next step forward.
Danielle believes in collaborative care and a treatment team. Whether you are coming to therapy with a team you know well or looking for referrals to start new, Danielle will explain the essentials of breaking the cycle of an eating disorder and moving forward.
More on My Background
Danielle has danced all of her life. Her enjoyment of music, movement, and exploring space led to performances and competitions in both high school and college. She also felt comfortable working with others and started both assistant teaching and teaching youth very early in her dance career.
Danielle went on to study dance and psychology in her undergraduate degree in Maryland and recieved a Masters in Creative Arts Therapy with a Specialization in Dance/Movement Therapy in New York City. Danielle became a board certified dance/movement therapist (BCDMT) and served on the California Chapter of the American Dance Therapy Association while working in California.
After injury and self reflection, Danielle returned to an early interest in working with eating disorders and a desire to help others establish and feel a mind-body connection. Although sometimes this connection is blissful and other times it is torturous, Danielle gained insight into the importance of knowing this connection, allowing emotions to flow through it, and gaining appreciation that the body is the vessel we were given to experience our being.
Danielle gained initial eating disorder training developing the creative arts therapy department for a residential center in California in 2010. This program was then expanded to both a PHP/IOP program, and inpatient setting.
Danielle felt an instant connection to working with those who were struggling with their relationship to food, their body and well being.
Danielle went on to become a program therapist and an Admissions therapist at a residential center for adolescents. Danielle embraced a Health at Every Size Approach as well as supported an Intuitive Eating Model.
The colloboration of treatment with dietitians and psychiatrists has always been of high importance as Danielle recognized that eating disorders don't present themselves in one way and also don't occur for one reason.
To come to a conculsion for now, Danielle retured from California to New York in 2017 and has been working with New York's preimere eating disorder center as a program therapist, admissions therapist and Admissions Director.
Danielle continues to work part-time as the Vice President of Clinical and Admissions Services and recognizes the need and advocacy that still needs to be done for those struggling with an eating disorder, body image distress, or poor relationship to food.
Danielle still loves to dance, socially connect with others, and share food with friends, family, and anyone who needs help.
